Becoming Close to Nature With Hardwood Flooring

Monday, January 25, 2010

Hardwood flooring is becoming a popular trend in house construction nowadays. This phenomenon is due to the rapid industrialization of countries where the environment is often neglected and harmed. People today live in urbanized areas where few trees and environmental landscape are available around. The use of concrete and cement materials adds to the environmental disconnection that people experience nowadays. It is one the design remedy that engineers use to provide more quality comfort to your home.

It gives a more cozy and homey feeling. The sensation of wood under your feet relaxes you more that a cement one. It brings you to the natural way of living.

There are three types of wood flooring. These are solid hard wood, engineered wood, and laminate flooring. The solid hardwood is made up of pure wood. It is like using a freshly chopped wood from a tree. Hardwood flooring is either unfinished or prefinished. Unfinished hardwood is less expensive than the prefinished hardwood flooring. It needs to undergo light sanding, staining, and sealing after it is installed.

At least 48 hours is needed to dry the seal. Some unfinished hardwood flooring needs additional coating. The prefinished hardwood flooring does not need to be sanded, stained, and sealed. You can walk on it after it is installed. Although a prefinished hardwood seems more convenient, you can not control its finish. With the unfinished hardwood flooring, you can decide on the final finish by controlling the coating you apply. The advantage of hardwood flooring is that it can be sanded many times which makes is live longer.

On the other hand, the disadvantage of hardwood flooring is that it can not be installed in moist places like the restroom.

Bamboo flooring is popular as a kind of hardwood flooring. Although it is not a hardwood, it is categorized under this category. The bamboo variety gives a more environmental feeling. This kind of flooring needs to be attached to another type of wood. It can not be nailed to a concrete or cement. When choosing a bamboo, you should consider its type of species because other bamboo is easily scratched.

The two other types of wood flooring are substitutes to hardwood. The engineered wood is a mix between a finish wood and plywood. 90% percent of the wood flooring is plywood, which is underneath the floor. The surface of the wood is the finish wood. This kind of flooring can stand light moisture. It can be put in the bathroom. The laminated flooring is not real wood. It is made of paper and wood-chip composite. This kind of flooring is scratch resistant. It can also stand moisture which makes it eligible for bathroom installation.

If you are thinking of using hardwood, you must consider your budget and preference. Although real wood seems the best choice, it has its own disadvantages that the synthetic woods do not have. But if your reason for putting hardwood flooring is to experience nature, then the disadvantages it has don't have to matter. To experience the ultimate wood experience, you have to accept all the disadvantages that come with the good ones.
